Our Journey
5 years ago, just in theory, researching therapy and emotional support dogs. We began to pray and dream with our children about breeding and raising perfect puppies for deserving families. A year later, a priceless opportunity presented itself, and we jumped in with all four paws!
The breeding world is not easy to get into, it's very exclusive, and rightfully so. It takes a very long time to produce your "trademark" dog, which we decided to do, producing unique puppies to Heritage Doodles that you won’t find anywhere else.
We decided to go the multigenerational route. We were blessed to have a number of mentors, and continue to learn new things every year that will improve our genetic lines. It can be intimidating when you're dealing with bloodlines, DNA testing, and on the other end, raising puppies to be healthy, with appropriately timed neuro-stimulation, socialization, training and nurturing. It's certainly not for the faint of heart; but truly the families who need our dogs and choose us over the myriad of options available are the BIGGEST reason why we are in business! We have the best relationship with each of our Heritage puppy families, they really become extended family all over the country!
Our Litter of 6
We are a family of 6! Kirk is an engineer in the oil and gas industry, and I, Liz, homeschool our children. Our children are an integral part of what makes our puppies the most incredible family pets. They come so well socialized and pre-loved because of the special roles each child has in our daily operations with the puppies.
Where did my passion for this come from? I had grown up in a home that always had a dog. My dad was earnest in his love for his dogs - mostly rescues, and I am sure that this exposure was what shaped me. Dealing with unpredictable rescues that we had as children has grown my desire to produce an amazing family pet, with excellent temperament from choice bloodlines.
What a world of difference it makes with a dog who can be traced back to their great-grandparents, is DNA tested, and has been socialized properly, without any trauma in their puppyhood. It is wonderful when people can rescue a dog, and likewise, great to assist families in selecting a dog for their unique lifestyle and small children.
Breeder Goals
Our breeder goals are to produce the healthiest, most gorgeous dog perfectly suited for a family! We raise every puppy in our home, under our feet. A puppy becomes socialized much faster by being included in our normal household activities. This is the time consuming part -. You just can't cut corners on socializing and nurturing properly! Thankfully, our children join our efforts and love to give them hands on love - so much attention. They are whelped in our master bedroom, and graduate to our living room and dining room space as we keep a close eye on them while they grow.
As we don't have the kennel environment (times have certainly evolved), we have loved bringing approved families on board for guardian families. This means we never have to retire a breeding female, as she is with her family from day one as a puppy! This is truly the best scenario for each doodle mama and dad from the start.
Here at Heritage Doodles, you will receive a lifetime support for your dog - for ALL stages of their lives. For actual socializing and neurostimulation of the pups in each sensitive stage, we use the Avidog and Puppy culture for those important nurturing and puppy rearing techniques.
